What Makes Conejo Valley Stand Out?

Nestled just west of the San Fernando Valley, the Conejo Valley is a gem within an hour’s commute to Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. This area boasts an array of trails, lush parks, and top-tier schools.   Additionally, the Conejo Valley gets 280 days of sun a year!!  For those in search of a home with a balance between urban accessibility and natural beauty, Conejo Valley real estate is certainly an option worth exploring.  There are five towns in the Conejo Valley:  Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Westlake Village.  Let’s take a look more in depth.

Agoura Hills is the first stop in our Conejo Valley tour.  It is a haven for those who appreciate a rich equestrian culture and a vibrant music scene. The town is renowned for its excellent schools and strong community spirit, highlighted by events like the Reyes Adobe Days. Housing here varies from charming communities established in the 70s and 80s to plots of open land ripe for development. The breathtaking hillside views are a significant draw for those looking at Conejo Valley real estate.

Oak Park, though the smallest community in the Conejo Valley, offers a secluded and intimate living experience. This town is celebrated for its safety, plethora of trails, parks (including popular splash pads), and exceptional schools.  In fact, Oak Park has it’s own highly regarded school district.  As a result, many seek out with district of choice to attend Oak Park schools! While homes here typically feature smaller yards, they represent a shift towards a more sustainable, low-maintenance lifestyle.

Thousand Oaks, often affectionately referred to as TO, is the largest city in the Conejo Valley. It presents a delightful mix of suburban charm and city convenience. Home to top-rated schools, including California Lutheran University, and attractions like The Oaks Mall and the Civic Arts Plaza, TO is a hub for families and culture enthusiasts alike. The real estate in Thousand Oaks ranges from spacious homes with large yards to more urban living options.  Above all, TO embraces a safe and vibrant community.

For those seeking affordability without sacrificing community quality, Newbury Park is a prime choice. Not only does it offer top-rated schools and a serene atmosphere, but its proximity to the Santa Monica Mountains also opens up a world of outdoor activities. The Dos Vientos community, a recent development in the area, offers newer homes near one of the largest employers, Amgen. Newbury Park’s real estate market is particularly attractive for its value and the cooler temperatures brought by the nearby beach air.

Westlake Village, my personal home and a pioneer in planned community living, is the center of the Conejo Valley. Conceived in the 60s, it was designed to harmoniously blend commercial areas, residential neighborhoods, and abundant green spaces.  Equally important, the Lake was designed as a stunning focal point. Westlake Village offers top-notch schools, lots of recreational activities, as well as exclusive shopping and dining options.  For example, the Promenade at Westlake, The Shoppes at Westlake, and The Landing are all key destinations for those venturing out. If you’re seeking luxury estates, Lake Sherwood and North Ranch, with their private country clubs and golf courses, are excellent options in Conejo Valley real estate.
